BEAUTIFUL CHALET AT THE FOOT OF MONT BLANC
Located within a condominium in Courmayeur, this apartment stands out for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, evoking the charm of an alpine lodge. The challenge we embraced was to transform a residential space into a mountain retreat by using reclaimed antique wood in a contemporary style.
Every detail, from design to execution, was meticulously curated—from space distribution to furnishings, down to the selection of textiles and lighting. The client wanted a home with numerous sleeping accommodations despite the limited space available. Each area was carefully planned to maximize functionality without ever compromising aesthetics.
Kids’ Room
A perfect example of intelligent space optimization is the kids’ room. The goal was to create as many sleeping spots as possible within a small area. By taking advantage of the room’s height, we managed to incorporate five beds: three single beds and a double bed recessed into a niche above the bathroom. This layout ensures comfort and practicality without overwhelming the space.
The Living Room
To enhance the harmony and functionality of the living room, we created a mezzanine area with a dual purpose: visually reducing an excessive ceiling height while also providing a cozy relaxation and reading nook. A custom-designed staircase leads to the mezzanine.
Another standout feature is the dining table, which extends up to 240 cm to comfortably accommodate 10–12 guests. The low drawer cabinet in the living area is crafted from 250-year-old reclaimed oak sourced from Provence. For the table, both the first and second patina of oak were used, creating a distinctive “a ronden” effect that cleverly conceals the drawer fronts.
The antique larch flooring completes the space, adding warmth and authenticity.
One of the living room’s true gems is the chandelier: an ancient oak beam, carbonized for a darkened effect, adorned with naturally shed deer antlers collected from the woods. This organic element adds character and uniqueness to the space.
Master Bedroom
At the heart of the master bedroom is a striking backlit iron artwork, a unique piece depicting the client’s family through carefully designed personalized silhouettes. In the background, the skyline of Mont Blanc is intricately carved into wood, adding depth and character to the composition. The ambiance is further enhanced by a custom-made chandelier: spotlights embedded in century-old first-patina oak columns create a perfect balance between modern design and the rich materiality of reclaimed wood.
Bathrooms
The bathrooms were designed with meticulous attention to offer maximum comfort despite the limited space available. In the master bathroom, we fulfilled the client’s desire for a spacious shower with chromotherapy, creating a relaxing and rejuvenating environment.
Guest Room
For the guest room, we designed a sliding bed system that optimizes the available space.
Here, too, lighting plays a crucial role: a backlit artwork featuring a deer silhouette—half in wood, half in iron—enhances the ambiance with an artistic touch. A similar solution was applied to the corridor area, where a backlit mirror in reclaimed wood highlights the hand-spatulated plaster, emphasizing the textures of the materials and lending the space an authentic and refined character.
This project represents a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, harmonizing the warmth of reclaimed wood with contemporary design. Every detail has been carefully considered to create an inviting atmosphere, transforming this apartment into a true alpine retreat in the heart of Courmayeur.
