Villa Musica

TWO JEWELS ON LAKE MAGGIORE

In the heart of Stresa, overlooking Lake Maggiore, stands a house that beautifully blends musical history with the harmony of the surrounding nature. This chalet, dating back to the early 20th century, has undergone a significant renovation, transforming a small dependance, known as “Villa Musica,” into a retreat that combines tradition and modernity.

The small house once hosted Giovanni Anfossi, a renowned pianist and composer, along with his students, including the legendary Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Today, it tells a story of passion for music and nature. Nestled in a secluded location, the building is accessed via a path surrounded by lush vegetation. It retains a distinct rural simplicity, with exposed stone walls and shutters restored to their original colors.

Inside, a large window dominates the space, offering a seamless visual connection to the outside and providing breathtaking views of the lake. The living area blends contemporary elements with traditional touches, such as copper radiators. The kitchen is crafted from reclaimed wood, featuring a convivial bar corner that separates the dining area from the living room with a fireplace.

The living room is enriched by a vibrant sofa and glass tables designed by the owner, whose strong aesthetic sense played a key role in the interior design. The fireplace, framed in hand-carved stone, adds extra warmth to the space, making it possible to enjoy the stunning views even in the coldest months.

The bathroom features reclaimed wood and “Rain Forest” marble, with a basalt slab from Sardinia enhancing the walls. Every detail, from the choice of materials to the layout, has been thoughtfully designed to respect and enhance the surrounding environment.

The renovation project preserved the historic charm of the house while incorporating modern elements to meet contemporary needs. The space has been optimized with skillful use of glass surfaces and a mezzanine dividing the living and sleeping areas. The pervasive use of wood in the furnishings and the choice of natural materials emphasize the harmony between the house and the surrounding nature, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere.

Villa Musica is a tribute to the musical heritage of the area and a perfect example of how restoration can honor the past without sacrificing modern comforts.
