In France, Chalet du Vieux Moulin takes shape as a home capable of expressing the full authentic strength of mountain architecture through a language of materials, light, and bespoke details. The project creates a precise balance between the rustic character of the building envelope and a contemporary compositional clarity, without losing the warm, lived-in feeling of domestic space.
At the heart of the home is the large kitchen and dining area, conceived as a place for gathering, daily life, and shared moments. The central island, spacious and solid, organizes movement and defines the operational core of the room, while the long solid wood table reinforces the idea of a house built around conviviality.
Giving this space an even stronger identity is the suspended chandelier above the table, made with cowbells. It is a deeply evocative element, capable of recalling Alpine culture and transforming a traditional object into a narrative feature of the project. Set among substantial beams, richly textured wooden surfaces, and light plastered walls, this detail helps create an atmosphere that feels authentic yet perfectly controlled from a compositional point of view.
Ancient beams, irregular uprights, bespoke furnishings, and finishes with strong material depth shape an interior that preserves the charm of tradition while reinterpreting it with design rigor. Here, wood is not simply a cladding material, but a structural and visual presence capable of defining identity, depth, and continuity throughout the space.
Adding further character to the room is the wood-fired oven, a sculptural presence that roots the kitchen in an authentic and domestic Alpine imagery.
