Furnel & Pirol

Furnel e Pirol was born from the transformation of an old family hayloft in Prazzo Superiore, in the heart of Maira Valley. What was once an empty rural building has been reimagined through authentic materials and design solutions inspired by the valley’s traditional architecture, becoming a warm, welcoming space deeply connected to its surroundings.

Reclaimed stone, aged timber beams, oak and larch flooring, iron and corten steel shape an interior where every element has a precise purpose. At the heart of the project is the large fireplace, around which the staircase unfolds. Integrated into the wall, the staircase incorporates reclaimed feeding troughs, carefully repurposed as steps. Between the staircase and the fireplace, a custom wine niche is carved directly into the structure.

Rather than recreating the image of a traditional mountain chalet, the project is rooted in careful proportions, authentic materials and refined craftsmanship. Reclaimed wood brings warmth to the interiors, stone conveys solidity, and the fireplace becomes both the visual and symbolic heart of the restaurant, reflecting the very meaning of the name Furnel e Pirol — Fireplace and Cauldron.

As the business evolved, so did the project. During the recent rebranding, we developed Furnel e Pirol’s new visual identity, designing the logo, custom typography, illustrations and colour palette. We also designed the new website, extending the same identity across every digital touchpoint and creating a consistent visual language that brings together cuisine, local heritage and hospitality without relying on clichés.

At the same time, we completed two new apartments dedicated to hospitality, further expanding the Furnel e Pirol experience. The first Dimora di Charme features a private in-room hot tub and a vertical fireplace, while the second offers a private sauna and a stone fireplace. Both apartments continue the restaurant’s material language through reclaimed wood, warm lighting, bespoke furniture and handcrafted details.

Today, Furnel e Pirol brings together a restaurant, butcher’s shop and hospitality in a single project: three complementary experiences united by the same attention to materials, local identity and an authentic way of experiencing the mountains.
